Islamabad recently made M-Tag installation mandatory for every vehicle entering the federal capital, but the administration is considering a Rs50 increase that could soon affect all motorists.
Once enforcement starts, authorities will refuse entry to any vehicle without an M-Tag, so citizens are advised to finish the tagging process as soon as possible.
The rollout resulted in lengthy lines on the first day as drivers rushed to comply, while the possibility of including motorcycles is still being considered.
The district administration established seven service locations throughout Islamabad, which are open from 9 am to 9 pm, and an additional Excise and Taxation Office in H-9, which provides tagging services from 3pm to 9pm, to alleviate the rush.
According to Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, cars that already have an M-Tag do not need to get a new E-Tag.
He underlined that the system's objectives are to prevent unauthorised traffic, increase resident convenience, and improve security.
The administration advised citizens to bring their CNIC, car registration book, and phone number for verification and announced an expansion to ten service locations.
