The government of Sindh is planning to revamp public transportation in Karachi by introducing double-decker and electric buses (e-buses) to the city next week.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon made this announcement, assuring citizens that the upcoming buses would count as additional commuting options for citizens in the metropolis.
New routes for the double-decker and e-buses will come shortly, and the government aims to launch an EV taxi service as well in Karachi in December, Memon said.
The government will also provide an additional 500 buses during the current financial year.
The minister also held a meeting to evaluate the progress of public transport programs, including the Yellow Line and Red Line BRT projects.
He instructed all officials in the transport department to prepare operational plans for the duplex buses before proceeding to the Yellow Line.
"The Sindh government hopes to have the EV taxi rolled out by December and also provide an additional 500 buses for the current financial year,” Memon said.
These new initiatives are expected to enhance the transportation system in Karachi and other districts in Sindh, providing residents with more options for their daily commutes while endorsing sustainable transportation practices.
