Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Javed Alam Odho on Monday announced that strict action will be taken against people who are using fake or illegal number plates on vehicles.
The official urged citizens to acquire the new number plates by December 2025, adding that all vehicles with illegal number plates after the deadline will be seized.
According to the Excise Department, Sindh has more than 6.5 million registered motorcycles, over 3.3 million of which are in Karachi alone.
The officials stated that as the e-challan system is launched, numerous drivers have reportedly installed fake plates to avoid fines. However, Sindh Police have already identified these violators and will not give leniency once the crackdown begins.
Earlier this month, the Sindh government extended the deadline to replace old number plates of vehicles with new plates.
The new number plate system features Ajrak-themed with high-tech features like Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) chips, laser serials, and barcodes. The provincial government has directed their use, and vehicles without these new plates may face e-challans, which will be delivered to their home.
