The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) on Thursday reinstated SereneAir’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC), clearing the way for the private airline to resume flight operations.
With the AOC restored, SereneAir can now bring in vital aircraft components and carry out required maintenance on its fleet, steps already underway as the airline gradually readies for flight operations.
The airline's licence was suspended last month by the regulator after it fell short of the minimum requirement for airworthy planes, thus leaving it "without serviceable aircraft".
The suspension instantly grounded all domestic and international flights, leaving passengers with cancelled bookings and the airline scrambling to stabilise operations.
SereneAir Chief Operating Officer Abdul Basit said the reinstatement allows SereneAir to repair grounded planes and return aircraft currently outside Pakistan.
“This step enables us to rebuild our fleet, stabilise operations, and ensure a safe, reliable service for our passengers,” he stated. Basit added that salary payments for employees will resume next month and all pending financial matters are being addressed.
The airline plans to reinstate domestic flights within a couple of months, while international operations may restart within three months, subject to approvals from the relevant authorities.
SereneAir management is also focusing on upgrading its operational standards so that no future compliance matters arise.
