Pakistan has made its first major leap towards space travel. The nation has begun selecting astronauts for a future mission to the China Space Station as part of a space cooperation agreement signed with China this year. This is Pakistan's foray into the realm of manned space missions and space-based scientific research.

The announcement was made by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) at China's Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. CMSA official Lin Xiqiang said that the selection of astronauts will occur in three phases.

Selection process  for Pakistani astronauts

  1. First, Pakistan will conduct local screening.
  2. Second, the most promising candidates will undergo additional testing in China.
  3. Finally, two individuals will be selected for complete training.

One of them will be part of a combined space mission with China as a payload specialist. This astronaut will assist the crew with everyday activities and perform scientific experiments on behalf of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Chinese technology company Galaxy Space sat down with government officials in Islamabad. They explored plans for joint space ventures and investment in the future.

A discussion was had with Pakistan's Ministry of IT and Telecom and SUPARCO the Pakistani space agency. Both sides were eager to collaborate on satellite and space technology projects.

This mission is more than sending someone to space. It is about enhancing Pakistan's space capability, enhancing science education, and establishing new opportunities for research and technology.
