This week in gaming was a blend of excitement, milestones, and surprises. The industry keeps moving at breakneck speed, from long-awaited game launches to record-breaking esports wins. While major studios make huge moves, fan-favorite franchises keep players guessing.

Gadinsider has compiled a summary of the biggest gaming announcements from the last week.

MindsEye gameplay trailer released

As fans of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) eagerly wait, a competing game, MindsEye, created by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, has dropped its gameplay trailer. MindsEye is a third-person action game created by Build A Rocket Boy, where AI and human greed pose a threat to stability in a world that is set in the future.

The main character, Jacob Diaz, has a neural implant known as MindsEye, which causes fragmented flashbacks of his past. The title is scheduled to be released later in the year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

GTA 6 release date and potential user-generated content

GTA 6 is expected to release in Fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, though delays remain a possibility. Rumours suggest Rockstar Games may introduce user-generated content, similar to Fortnite and Roblox, allowing players to modify the game’s world.

Rockstar’s acquisition of CFX.RE, a roleplaying server creator, hints at an expansion of GTA Online’s customisation features.

Sony undecided between PlayStation Showcase or State of Play for Summer 2025

Sony is reportedly debating between a full-fledged PlayStation Showcase and a toned-down State of Play event for Summer 2025.

Traditionally, PlayStation Showcase events highlight major Sony exclusives, while State of Play focuses on third-party announcements. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb speculated that Wolverine, expected in 2026, might be revealed during this summer's event.

Pokémon Go ownership change in $3.5bn deal

Niantic Inc. is said to be getting ready to offload Pokémon Go's gaming business to Scopely Inc., a holding company of Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games Group. The rumoured $3.5 billion deal would potentially make it one of the largest gaming acquisitions in recent history. Niantic, which debuted Pokémon Go in 2016, has had trouble with other AR games and has already cut 230 staff members in 2023 to concentrate on its flagship projects.

PlayStation Plus Premium adds new games for February 2025

Spider-Man 2 for PC: Patch 3 released

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 received its third major patch, addressing visual and performance issues affecting its PC version. Following technical difficulties at launch, the latest update has improved stability, with reviews on Steam shifting from "Mixed" to "Mostly Positive."

GTA 5 PC to receive free upgrade

Rockstar Games announced a free upgrade for GTA 5 on PC, scheduled for release on March 4. The update brings technical improvements, including ray tracing, AI upscaling support, and GTA+ membership access. It also integrates online-specific features previously exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, such as new vehicles, ambient animal encounters, and an improved introductory cash reward for new players.

The Sims 4 Businesses and Hobbies Expansion pack announced

Launching on March 6, The Sims 4’s new expansion introduces businesses and hobbies. Sims can now run small businesses based on their skills, own multiple businesses per household, and transfer or sell businesses. New lot types allow for mixed-use spaces, and new hobbies include tattooing and pottery.
