Sony's latest virtual reality headset, the PlayStation VR2, has finally made its way to India, almost 10 months after its initial launch in the US. However, the pricing and availability pose some interesting considerations for potential buyers.

The standalone purchase of the visor and Sense controllers is priced at Rs 57,990. Alternatively, consumers can opt for the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which includes additional content, priced at Rs 61,999. Notably, this is slightly higher than the standard PS5 console in the country.

PS VR 2: Limited stock challenges

Despite the anticipation, there appears to be a scarcity of stock among online retailers. Currently, only Amazon and e2z Store have the headset available, with the latter listing only the base edition. Other platforms offer pre-booking options or the ability to receive email notifications for future availability.

To counter stock limitations, the PlayStation VR2 catalogue is now accessible on the PlayStation Store. This includes the digital version of the Horizon spin-off, priced at Rs 3,999. The bundle also provides a voucher for a game download, featuring unique cover art.

PS VR 2: Horizon Universe expansion

The Horizon spin-off introduces players to the character Ryas, a former Shadow Carja warrior, navigating the central part of the Sundom to uncover a mystery. The game expands the Horizon universe, with appearances from series protagonist Aloy and other familiar characters, contributing to quests.

While the headset is expected to become widely available in major retailers such as Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, and others, Amazon currently offers a limited-time 8 percent discount, bringing the price down to Rs 54,990 — equivalent to the Blu-ray-equipped PS5 console.

Cutting-edge features of PlayStation VR2

While the PlayStation VR2 launch is a positive development for virtual reality enthusiasts, there are concerns regarding the delayed Spider-Man 2 Collector's Edition orders. Customers who pre-ordered the package in June have yet to receive it, and Sony India has not provided an official statement on the situation via its social media channels.

The PlayStation VR2 boasts impressive features, including a 4,000 x 2,040 OLED panel resolution, 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rates, and a 110-degree field of view (FOV).

Unique to this VR system is the absence of tracking cameras for height adjustments, offering a more convenient setup. Additionally, the sensory feature uses motor vibrations to immerse users in the gaming experience, replicating sensations and tension from within the virtual world.
