Since its inception, PUBG has proved to be the game that's been acclaimed across age groups, generations and platforms, but now it seems the time has come for a few consoles to adjust without PUBG, as the game will no longer be supported on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting November 13, 2025.

PUBG's incompatibility with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is reportedly being triggered by KRAFTON's focus shifting to next-gen consoles, specifically the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.

Why PUBG won't work on older consoles?

The "PUBG won't be working on these older consoles" happening has emerged because of performance and future-proofing concerns, meaning the ageing hardware of the PS4 and Xbox One is incapable of supporting modern graphics and enhancements that require greater stability and speed.

With various hardware-oriented capabilities that are going to be restricted to new console versions, PUBG's functionality will remain intact on the current and future-gen consoles.

The PUBG developers said keeping up with older systems hindered their ability to deliver new content and updates. With PUBG's support ending for PS4 and Xbox One, they aim to optimise the game for the latest technology.

What's next after PUBG not supported on PS4 and Xbox One?

With PS4 and Xbox One bidding farewell to PUBG, players are advised not to worry about losing progress, as player data and purchased items will transfer seamlessly.

PS5 users can download a dedicated version of PUBG, while Xbox Series X and S owners will receive an update via Smart Delivery.

That said, current-gen users can expect significant improvements, including smoother gameplay, enhanced resolutions, and faster loading times.

The game developer expressed gratitude for the support over the past eight years and confirmed that seasonal content and esports initiatives will be exclusively for the latest consoles and PC.
