The Punjab Excise Department has begun a thorough crackdown on property tax evaders throughout the province in a major effort to increase the tax base and reduce tax evasion.

The department has taken strict action to bring untaxed properties under the tax system at the direction of DG Excise, Umar Sher Chattha.

Official sources claim that inspections are taking place in Lahore using information gathered from the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) and the Urban Unit.

Over the last three months, 46,000 new units have been added to the tax net in Lahore alone, demonstrating the significant results of the efforts. To date, 120,000 units have been added to the system throughout the province.

In the last year, over 700,000 property units have been added to the tax net, bringing the total number of taxpayers from 1.8 million to over 2.5 million, according to DG Excise Umar Sher Chattha.

The department's efforts have proven effective, as evidenced by the addition of over 1,300 units to the system in just two weeks.

The process is being closely monitored by the Director of Audit and Enforcement, with 15 teams of Excise Tax Officers (ETOs) and inspectors conducting inspections.

In the current fiscal year, the department has set a property tax target of Rs 33 billion, of which Rs 13 billion has already been collected.

In addition to concentrating on tax recovery, the Punjab Excise Department is enforcing severe penalties against individuals who have avoided paying taxes or neglected to add units to the system.

The department is committed to bringing all properties under the tax code and meeting its revenue goals, so the crackdown on tax evasion is likely to continue.
