The Sindh government plans to introduce a new “Pink Taxi” initiative solely for women, announced Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday.

Bilawal made the announcement at a ceremony in Karachi where he handed out keys to electric pink scooters to women for free. He said the taxi scheme will be initiated soon to create safer and dependable options for women's transport.

“This is just the start of it,” Bilawal said to those present. “We will be having another event very soon and introducing pink taxis for women.”

This builds on Sindh's earlier initiatives in transport, including electric buses and the Pink Bus service in Karachi, making Sindh the first province to have public transport specifically reserved for women.

Bilawal said the distribution of scooters would help women students and working women overcome transportation difficulties where public transport was not available.

He mentioned the provincial government had announced other recent initiatives that happened this week, including the Benazir Hari Card scheme providing financial assistance to small affected farmers from floods.

Bilawal stressed that empowering women is one of the major development agenda of the Sindh government, adding that Pakistan could not progress without their active participation.
