Spotify, the world's leading music streaming app, experienced a significant outage on Wednesday, with thousands of users unable to play music or access the service.
According to Downdetector, over 21,000 users in the UK and over 17,000 worldwide reported issues with the Spotify app and website.
Spotify down for thousands of users
The majority of the complaints were related to the Spotify outage, while some complained about the website and a few experienced playback problems. Approximately 69% of users reported that the app was not loading, 30% complained about the website, and 1% complained about streaming issues. The problem impacted both mobile and desktop users.
Spotify acknowledged the issue on its official X account (@SpotifyStatus), stating: "We're aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!" A subsequent post later added: "We're aware of some recent issues that should be all clear now! Thanks for your patience, you rock."
What is Downdetector?
Downdetector is a live status checker for prominent services such as Instagram, Facebook, and Spotify. It aggregates user reports and monitors online activity to identify service outages. Users can also report issues they encounter, which are then confirmed to determine whether an outage is occurring.
Most users in Europe and the UK were hit first, and then a few users in the US also began encountering problems. When attempting to access Spotify, a few users received error messages or had playback fail.
