Spotify has officially announced the launch of its most-awaited HiFi lossless audio feature for Premium subscribers on Wednesday.
The company noted that the lossless audio feature is now available in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the United States (US), and the United Kingdom (UK). Meanwhile, Spotify said that the rollout will expand to more than 50 countries, including Pakistan, by October 2025.
Spotify's new lossless audio feature is now available in media quality settings for eligible users, offering files in up to 24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC. This marks a significant upgrade from the previous maximum of 320kbps Ogg Vorbis.
However, not every Premium user will receive the feature immediately. Spotify has confirmed that most eligible markets will gain access within the next month. Lossless gives listeners every detail of the music, which means the audio files can be larger.
How to enable lossless audio feature in Spotify
Gadinsider has a guide on how to turn on lossless audio in the Spotify app:
- Tap your profile icon in the top left.
- Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
- Select where you want to enable lossless audio: Wi-Fi, cellular, downloads.
It is worth noting that you’ll need to enable Lossless manually on each device. “You’ll know Lossless is on because the Lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing view or bar, and via the Connect Picker,” Spotify said.
For the smoothest and best listening experience, Spotify suggests streaming lossless music on Wi-Fi using wired headphones or speakers on a non-Bluetooth connection, like Spotify Connect.
