Spotify's long-awaited HiFi tier for its streaming service, which was announced four years ago, will be launched later this year.
According to Bloomberg, the music streaming giant is finalising details, including the streaming rights, for the new tier called "Music Pro."
Spotify’s Music Pro plan
Spotify’s Music Pro tier is expected to release with a higher price tag, potentially an additional $5 or $6 per month. This is in line with estimates provided by Spotify's CEO, Daniel Ek, last year.
Currently, Spotify's Premium tier starts at $11.99 per month, following two price hikes in the past two years.
Unlike competitors like Apple Music, which includes lossless streaming in their base price, Spotify has planned to justify the extra charge by offering additional features in the Music Pro tier.
These features might include song remixing, concert ticket sales, exclusive deals and early access for subscribers.
Recently, Spotify also signed new multi-year licensing agreements with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group, securing future streaming rights and paving the way for the launch of HiFi streaming.
Notably, Universal Music Group specifically hinted at HiFi streaming and proposed ideas for a "superfan" music service, including priority access to exclusive content, early music releases, and invites to listening parties and artist Q&A sessions.
