Spotify, a music streaming service app, held a stronghold at its monthly subscription of $9.99, but the change happened last year when the premium service raised to $10.99. However, the company is preparing another price hike soon.
Citing Bloomberg’s reports, The Verge reported that the cost of Spotify Premium is expected to go up by between $1 and $2 in some markets, including the United Kingdom (UK), Australia, and Pakistan, by the end of April. This comes just after a previous price increase from $9.99 to $10.99 last July.
However, there is one essential warning here that the user wants to listen to audiobooks on Spotify. The main reason for the increase in subscription price is to cover the cost.
Spotify made itself the second-largest player in audiobooks after Audible and it is rapidly expanding into new markets.
The company will release a new “basic” subscription at the existing $10.99 Premium pricing that excludes them while still combining music and podcasts. Spotify plans to launch its long-rumoured “Supremium” plan which would include lossless streaming and other features.
Moreover, some users have observed a Dolby Atmos logo on the app’s Now Playing screen. It’s an important clue that spatial audio will be included as one of Supremium's special features.
Spotify has yet not announced the upcoming price hike.
