As the world has been embracing an ever-deepening exploration of space mysteries for decades, Pakistan too has its first-ever lunar rover up its sleeves, scheduled to be launched in 2028 on the back of China's Chang-E 8 mission.

To make the China-backed rover mission more exciting by involving the nation, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has opened a nationwide contest welcoming citizens to suggest a name for the lunar rover.

Name Pakistan’s Lunar Rover cash prize

What makes Name Pakistan’s Lunar Rover, the naming competition, more compelling is that the space regulatory authority is also offering a cash prize of Rs100,000 for the winner.

Unlike planets farthest from Earth, the Moon has been intriguing humanity for decades since the first human being stepped on its surface, making scientists explore the possibility of life there as it's reportedly rich with valuable resources like water ice and rare minerals.

Pakistan's first-ever Lunar Rover will play a vital role in unfolding the Moon's surface, manoeuvring rough plains to conduct scientific experiments and transmit data back to Earth.

Leveraging the findings of the lunar rovers, scientists dig deep into Earth’s history, planetary evolution, and life beyond their very own place of origin.
