Tesla is ready to unveil its self-driving robotaxi, a purpose-built autonomous vehicle that’s presumed to reposition the company as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
The new robotaxi is set to be announced at Warner Bros. movie studios in Burbank, California, where Tesla has claimed to have collected fresh mapping data in the lead-up to the event.
Tesla has numerous grounds to cover to prove it can launch a driverless vehicle that can compete with robotaxi rivals such as Waymo and Cruise.
Moreover, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is anticipated to outline his vision for the Tesla Network, in which Tesla owners can include their autonomous vehicles in a robotaxi fleet when they’re not using them.
Earlier, Tesla was planning to unveil the robotaxi in August, but Musk delayed the date to October 10 to allow more time to work on the prototype. In addition, the company could have some surprises up its sleeve.
Tesla has set the name of the event with the title “We, Robot,” a reference to Isaac Asimov’s seminal work I, Robot. Additionally, it could suggest that the company will receive an update on the Tesla’s humanoid Optimus bot.
