In a bid to stay competitive against rivals such as X (formerly Twitter) and outshine the rising popularity of Bluesky, Threads has introduced a significant update to the app, allowing users to reshare others’ photos and videos without including the original post.
It should be noted that over the past few weeks, the Meta-owned platform has been witnessing an accelerated rollout of high-in-demand features and updates.
According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Threads users will be able to add their captions alongside the reshared media with credit to the original creator.
“This is a quick, easy way to add your creative takes to trending images and clips without quote posting,” Mosseri noted.
The original creator’s username will appear in the top-left corner of the photo or video, with a repost counter in the lower left. Moreover, tapping on the username will show a list of posts using the media, with the original post appearing at the top.
This feature aims to tackle a long-standing issue of users reposting content without giving credit. Now, creators will receive a notification when their posts are reused, with the ability to turn off resharing from their account settings.
How to use Threads’ new media reposting feature
To repost media on Threads, users can long-press the media or the repost button and select “use media” to add their text and share the post.
It should be noted that X has a similar option for videos, which includes a credit under the video and a link to the original post.
