While its future in the United States is uncertain, TikTok is gearing up to expand to new markets by launching its e-commerce platform, TikTok Shop, in Japan in the near future.

Citing a report by the Nikkei newspaper, Reuters reported that the Chinese-owned social media giant is also recruiting sellers for its e-commerce platform TikTok Shop.

TikTok Shop enables users to sell products through livestreams and short videos and earn commission on sales. The social media platform's e-commerce division is especially known for discounted goods such as sneakers, cosmetics, and electronics.

TikTok Shop's expansion comes as TikTok pushes into new regions amid its future in the US hanging in the balance, where a law has been in place forcing it to face a ban or be sold to a non-Chinese investor.

TikTok's woes in the US seemed to remain unchanged even after US President Donald Trump claimed that a potential deal was still “on the table”.

TikTok Shop in March made its way into several European countries, including France, Germany, and Italy, making significant strides towards widening its global retail.

As TikTok is poised to enter Japan, the country's rich e-commerce sector is likely to allow it to establish itself in the increasingly challenging e-commerce sphere.
