TikTok is introducing AMBER Alerts to help find missing children in the US. These alerts will appear directly in users’ For You feeds when a child goes missing in their area.

The feature is designed to increase awareness and assist in search efforts.

When an AMBER Alert pops up on TikTok, the viewer will be presented with a picture of the missing child and other important information including age, where they were found, and where they were last seen.

A direct call to 911 option will also be available for people who have pertinent information. TikTok has joined forces with the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to implement this feature across the country.

Moreover, the platform first piloted the feature in Texas last year, when AMBER Alerts on TikTok were seen over 20 million times. The popularity of this pilot led TikTok to roll out the feature nationwide in the US.

The effort is part of the app's continued focus on child safety, following nighttime reminders for teen users to lower screen time.

TikTok is the latest major platform to incorporate AMBER Alerts into its service. Other apps, including Uber and Waze, rolled out comparable alerts in 2015, and Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter) have also implemented missing child notifications.

Extending AMBER Alerts to TikTok provides a better opportunity for finding missing children promptly because the app is viewed by millions of users every day.
