Torrential rain set to strike this week in UK before September heatwave

Weather heatwave expected amid unsettled conditions for next week with thunderstorms in southern England

Thunderstorms accompanying strong winds are all set to strike the United Kingdom (UK) this week prior to the extreme heat by the end of the month,  as the Met Office — the UK-based national weather and climate service — concludes the "September heatwave" in the country.

According to the Met Office, there is no truth in the speculations regarding the expected weather heatwave, which would rise to 30C.

Met Office’s verdict on September heatwave

A spokesperson of the Met Office said: “This week we could see temperatures climb again towards the back end of the week to Friday and Saturday, but it’s not going to get anywhere near what’s been quoted.”

“We may get towards the high 20s, maybe a 27, possibly a 28. But it’s not looking likely that we’re going to see any sort of record temperatures. There’s nothing I can see from our data [to indicate that].”

However, the Met Office further said that “brief spells of warm or even very warm weather” during the month of September.

UK heatwave weather forecast from September 7 up to September 16

According to the forecast read from September 7 up to September 16, “Temperatures are likely to be around average overall, with further potential for brief spells of warm or even very warm weather in the south, especially southeast, at times.”

Weather forecast for upcoming week in UK

Monday

Almost 80mm of torrential rain is expected in a few damaged areas in East coast of Scotland, but the Met Office has already given a yellow weather warning in vast areas of the country.

A few damaged areas are also forecasted to experience almost 40mm of rainfall in less than 60 minutes accompanying thunderbolts, strong winds and a high alert of flash flooding.

Additionally, the Environment Agency has issued 14 flood alerts for the Monday afternoon, resulting in inundation; these areas include, Bottle Brook, the River Blyth, River Maun, and more.

Tuesday

Strong winds with rain are forecasted in the southeast; while it would be accompanied by downpours in the north and west side of the country. 

Wednesday

According to a spokesperson, the weather would be quite clear and there would be “sunshine and showers,” accompanied by heavy rain concentrations in Wales and England with thunderclaps in south-east England.
