WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT app is now officially launched in China, offering benefits to Huawei consumers. This app development is said to expand the OEM’s self-developed operating system in the region but also give a tough spot to Android.
The company said that Huawei users can now download the HarmonyOS NEXT-based WeChat app from the AppGallery. Tencent launched the application after months of beta testing.
The new app version is supported with smarter and more convenient features, offering a seamless usage experience. One can opt for payments, make short videos, go live, or join any mini programme as per their preference.
Moreover, users can chat with friends, make voice or video calls, and enjoy Moments with their contacts.
WeChat is said to expand HarmonyOS NEXT benefits to 1.38 billion monthly active users. It will eventually help Huawei to puncture the dominance of Android and iOS on its home turf.
This year, the company has a target to develop more than 100000 HarmonyOS native apps. Huawei is constantly making efforts to achieve this goal and the results will be revealed in the coming days.

The official version is available on AppGallery with a 1.0.3.42 version and a downloadable package of 362.5 MB. Gadinsider has compiled a lineup of some useful add-ons below.
- Chat: Supports single chat and group chat to send text, pictures, videos, voice, emotions, and other types of messages.
- Calls: The WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT app supports voice and video calls.
- Moments: You can share different types of content with friends and set geographic locations with visible range.
- Teen mode: You can turn on the Teen Mode and set the accessible content.
- WeChat Pay: Supports sending and receiving red envelopes, money transfers, wallet management, and other features. You can also use payment services in mini-programs and web pages conveniently.
- More features: You can use official accounts, mini programs, video accounts, live broadcasts, listen, and other features to obtain content and services.
On the other hand, it is important to note that some features in the current WeChat app version are still unavailable. The app is still under continuous iteration and improvement.
