In the face of the ongoing competition of integrating artificial intelligence (AI), WhatsApp has started releasing its new Ask Meta AI feature to some users in Pakistan.
WhatsApp's new Ask Meta AI feature allows interaction with Meta’s AI chatbot directly from the chat interface. This eliminates the need to search on Google or start a separate conversation.
Upon activation, an Ask Meta AI icon is displayed on the chat screen, through which users can type their questions or requests, and have the AI chatbot respond right in the same conversation. The exciting part of the story is that it works for both private and group chats, with everyone able to see the AI's replies.
It's worth noting that users can also forward messages or media directly to Ask Meta AI. When picking up a message or photo to forward, “Meta AI” will appear as an option, making it easier for users to get answers without copying and pasting content.
In addition to mere text-based assistance, the AI also offers message summaries, enabling users to catch a glimpse of long conversations.
If a user unfortunately misses messages, WhatsApp can provide a private summary, exclusively visible to that particular user, ensuring it doesn’t disrupt others in the chat.
Another notable aspect is that only messages sent to Ask Meta AI are accessible to the system, while regular messages remain end-to-end encrypted for privacy.
Some users, who received the feature as part of the rollout testing, noted that the Ask Meta AI icon cannot be completely removed once it appears, although it can be muted or minimised.
As of now, the feature is gradually being introduced in Pakistan. But it depends on your device whether you're eligible to obtain it or not. For that matter, users are advised to use the latest version of WhatsApp to be more likely to gain access to it.
