Similar to the artificial intelligence-driven summaries we now have on Google search, renowned messaging platform WhatsApp has officially launched Message Summaries as a new feature.

WhatsApp's Message Summaries are said to be designed to make it easier for users to review loads of unread messages at a glance, courtesy of AI.

The AI-assisted summarisation tool is leveraging Meta AI to generate concise summaries of chats, simplifying it to keep pace with even an extensive amount of messages in group chats.

Simply tapping on the unread message count in any chat will follow a pop-up displaying a bullet-point summary of the messages therein.

What sets this AI feature apart is that these summaries are generated locally using Meta’s Private Processing technology.

According to WhatsApp, neither Meta nor WhatsApp can access the original messages or the AI-generated summaries, and other participants in the conversation cannot view your summaries either.

The Message Summaries feature is optional and is disabled by default. Users can enable it through the Advanced Chat Privacy settings, where they can also select which chats are eligible for AI-based features.

Those eager to try out the feature must have patience, as the Message Summaries are only available in the United States and support the English language.
