WhatsApp plans to transform its "About" section by introducing disappearing statuses, which let users post brief updates that automatically disappear after a predetermined amount of time.
The new feature, which is presently under development, will allow users to customise the duration of their status, which can be anywhere from a few hours to several days.
This is especially helpful for sharing short-term updates, like events or travel schedules, without overcrowding profiles with out-of-date data.
The disappearing status will be displayed beneath the user's name in chat windows and on their profile, giving others a convenient way to stay informed about any updates.
But the update will only be visible to those who are allowed by the user's privacy settings.
WhatsApp has also started implementing promoted channels and status ads in the "Status" section of the Update tab, in addition to the disappearing status feature.
Users will be able to tell them apart from normal status updates because they will be clearly marked as advertisements.
Like regular status updates, users will be able to view Status Ads and swipe to avoid them.
This change is a part of WhatsApp's continuous efforts to improve user experience and give companies new ways to connect with their target audiences.
While no official release date has been set, it is anticipated that all Android users will be able to utilise the disappearing status feature in upcoming updates.
