WhatsApp has officially released a highly acclaimed feature, letting users convert voice messages into text. This significant update is particularly designed to improve your user experience, especially in situations where listening to audio is inconvenient or impossible.

The feature is gradually rolling out and will be completely accessible to users in the coming weeks.

The voice message transcription feature, which was initially announced in November 2024, utilises on-device processing while ensuring enhanced security during the transcription process.

Currently, the latest transcription feature supports numerous languages such as English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. However, specific areas such as South Asia, do not completely support languages, including Urdu or Hindi, although the platform has wilder plans to expand more languages soon.

To activate this feature, users need to ensure they have the newest variant of the app. The process involves navigating to the “Settings” menu, choosing “Chat,” and allowing the “Voice Message Transcripts” option.

Once activated, users can now transcribe any voice message by long-pressing the message and tapping the “Transcribe” option from the “More Options” menu.

While the latest feature enhances accessibility, a few limitations exist. For example, voice messages that remain unclear or contain background noise may not be transcribed precisely.

The launch of voice message transcription aims to simplify communication, offering a more convenient alternative for those who prefer reading over listening to voice messages.
