Pakistan is all set to roll out a local alternative to the Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp, named “Beep Pakistan.” Former IT minister Amin ul Haque highlighted this app back in August 2023, describing it as a groundbreaking development that would elevate the country’s IT industry to the next level.

The news gained further traction when the State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khwaja, announced that the application had undergone various trials and would be released “soon” among different government departments.

Currently, the Beep Pakistan app has been initially introduced for government employees and will later be made available to the general public. It boasts several features, including secure messaging, crisp audio and video calls, file sharing, and conference calls for up to 200 people.

Haque further stated that after a month-long trial, the app would be accessible for public use following one year of successful operation, ensuring data security and privacy. Similar to WeChat in China and WhatsApp in America, the Beep Pakistan app is expected to become Pakistan’s own communication platform.
