WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature, named 'chat history', which will allow new group members to see past group chat messages and receive instant updates, expected to provide users with a better messaging experience.
WhatsApp update will work like when a user joins a group, they can see messages shared before their entry. Members can also share the past week’s chat history with newcomers, helping them stay up to date.
This functionality enables new group participants to understand ongoing conversations immediately, while admins hold control of this option in the group settings.
Currently, this feature is available to select users, showing the past 24 hours of chat activity, although the exact window may change before official release to a wider audience.
To prevent extreme data usage, Meta may limit the history to 1,000 messages. WhatsApp aims to make group conversations smoother, clearer, and more inclusive for users so they can easily enjoy and stay up-to-date.
WhatsApp has redesigned status sharing for users to post short-term updates more clearly and interactively. The design allows users to quickly notice a contact’s activity without opening extra screens.
With these additions, WhatsApp still notes that security remains a priority, as every chat is end-to-end encrypted.
A new strict security mode, available for some beta users, automatically blocks media from unknown senders, silences calls from strangers, restricts group invitations, and enforces two-step verification.
