WhatsApp is reportedly working on two new features for video calls. These are emoji reactions and a raise-hand feature, spotted in the latest beta version (2.25.5.21).
The features will help make video calls more interactive, bringing WhatsApp in line with other platforms like Google Meet and Zoom.
WhatsApp likely to add reactions on video calls
According to some rumours, these features are still in development, and there is no guarantee that they will be included in the final release.
However, if introduced, they will allow users to express themselves better during video calls. The new options will be accessible by tapping the three-dotted button in the bottom bar.
The emoji reactions feature lets users react to a conversation without speaking. Users will have access to six emoji options: thumbs up, heart, laughing face, shocked face, crying face, and folded hands. This is useful for showing emotions in real time without interrupting the conversation.
The raise-hand feature is designed to make video calls smoother. If someone wants to ask a question or add to the discussion, they can use this feature to signal to others without cutting in. This is especially helpful for large group calls, online classes, and meetings.
WhatsApp has been adding new features to improve its platform, and these updates could enhance the video calling experience. While these features are still in the beta version, they show that WhatsApp is working on improving user interaction.
