WhatsApp is testing a feature that could remind you about unread private messages, making it harder to ignore certain chats.

The app, used by billions of users worldwide, already sends reminders for status updates, but this new addition targets to ensure important private messages don’t go unnoticed.

WhatsApp new feature

The beta version 2.24.25.29 of WhatsApp for Android is experimenting with the improved reminders. In the future rollout, this will send push alerts for the unread chats chosen as per the metrics on the device.

This means it won't notify you about every missed message, but rather the ones it deems important. The system recalibrates itself if you restore a backup on a new device, ensuring personalised reminders.

WhatsApp recently added a reminders toggle in its notification settings. This feature is enabled by default and currently displays status updates but may soon also include unread private messages.

If these alerts disturb you too much, then you can simply turn them off in the app's notification settings.

Meta often tests beta versions of new features on its users to decide whether those features will reach the stable version.

With this update, it may arrive in the stable version, or it may not. The reminders feature is still under development. No official announcement has been made yet.

WhatsApp's new reminders feature for private messages might be helpful for those who are juggling multiple conversations, but it may be quite intrusive for those who prefer to manage their chats without push alerts.
