With user privacy as its core, Meta-owned instant messaging platform is reportedly rolling out a new logout feature, allowing users to log out from their Android devices while letting them opt in to erase all app data.
Once it's made available to the general WhatsApp audience, the feature will be located under the Account Settings of the app.
With the new logout feature, users will have two choices: one that logs them out and deletes all data and preferences, while the other allows them to log out without losing any information, Phoneworld reported.
Choosing the data-erasing option will have the same impact as uninstalling WhatsApp, since all app data will be removed and the user will be logged out. It has also been reported that doing so does not remove them from any groups
Contrary to the first option, the second option that keeps data intact just logs the user out of WhatsApp, keeping their chats, group chats, and preferences untouched for easy restoration upon signing back in with their phone number.
The new feature makes it easier for users keen to take a break from the app without losing their data, chat history or settings. The feature could particularly be ideal for those seeking a digital detox, with reduced distractions.
