WhatsApp was reportedly working on a feature to clear the unread message count to enable users to ultimately reset their unread message notification every time after open the app.
Simultaneously users can easily initiate with a zero unread message count, which reassures them to stay focused on the latest messages avoiding getting overloaded by the previous notifications.
It seems like the Meta-owned platform has started to test this feature with the public, as few users found it on the app.
With the rollout of this significant update, WhatsApp enables users to manipulate their home screen badge behaviour, offering more adaptability to select between two options to clear the home screen badge count.

Additionally, users would be capable to adjust the app badge after every view, so it tells you the exact quantity of unread messages and missed calls after viewing every time. If users open all the unread messages and view all the missed calls, then the feature will work accordingly, offering you a screenshot of whatever is left beyond, which is quite impressive for users who want to stay updated about all the unread messages and unviewed missed calls.
The other option is regarding the default settings that allow users to adequately reset the badge count every time after opening the app, irrespective of whether they have read the messages or not. If you select this option to clear the notification badge after opening the app, users can enjoy a smooth home screen as all the unread messages have already vanished upon app access.
This feature is currently rolled out to a few beta testers who have already installed the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android and it will be introduced to the public in the near future.
