In a notable move to enhance user experience, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature allowing users to reshare and forward status updates.

This purported new WhatsApp feature is expected to be incorporated into an upcoming app update, as reported by WABetaInfo.

As of now, sharing a WhatsApp status update comes with a handful of restrictions, as users can only share an update if they are directly mentioned by a contact, who then authorises publication of that status. Apart from that, there is no way to reshare regular status updates unless they are tagged.

With the upcoming feature, a tooltip will appear when users share a status update, making it easier to allow others to share their updates. Moreover, a separate toggle will give users full control of this setting, which remained disabled by default to maintain privacy.

Upon activating the toggle, the status senders' contacts will be able to reshare their status updates.

It must be noted that the phone number of the original poster will not be visible to those who will receive or view the reshared status update to maintain privacy at all times.
