For many WhatsApp users, managing conversations through notifications can be frustrating. To address this issue, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature in the latest update, allowing users to control how notifications are managed when the app is opened.

This move is part of the messaging platform's ongoing efforts to elevate the overall experience by bringing strategic updates.

New settings for managing home screen notifications

Currently available on the WhatsApp Android 2.25.4.20 update via the Google Play Store, a new toggle is present in the app's settings, under home screen notifications.

Previously, the WhatsApp home screen icon was used to display a notification counter, which disappears as soon as the app is opened, regardless of whether the user has viewed the notifications or not.

However, now, the "Show count until viewed" toggle will allow users to decide whether the notification counter remains visible until they have manually viewed the unread messages and calls.

Notably, if enabled, the WhatsApp icon will continue to display the notification counter until the user has viewed all unread messages and calls.

On the other hand, if disabled, the app will clear the notification counter each time the app is opened.

The feature is under development and it will be available to all Android users in future updates.
