WhatsApp, the widely popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, has launched a new feature called Advanced Chat Privacy, which has been designed to give users tighter control over how messages and media are shared or used outside the app.
The new feature was initially spotted in a leak earlier this month, and once enabled, it prevents participants from exporting chat history, automatically downloading media to their devices, and using your messages in WhatsApp’s AI-powered features.
Highly demanded by its massive user base, which is more than two billion strong worldwide, WhatsApp's Advanced Chat Privacy comes to address growing concerns about data security, ProPakistani noted.
Although the feature doesn’t prevent screen captures, it protects sensitive discussions, such as health support groups or community forums, where privacy is indispensable.
How to activate Advanced Chat Privacy in WhatsApp
To activate Advanced Chat Privacy in WhatsApp, users have to open the desired chat, tap the chat name at the top of the screen, and select the feature from the menu. From there, they can switch it on for one specific conversation. It's worth noting that it should be turned on separately for each chat.
The company said the initial release of Advanced Chat Privacy set the stage for future enhancements, as it continues to introduce more restrictions and privacy tools in future.
