Meta-owned instant messaging platform — WhatsApp — irritated users earlier this week by adding capital letters to its "Online" and "Typing" tags — a move which was taken in order to modernise its programme.

However, following widespread outcry on social media, WhatsApp quickly reversed the change, claiming that the app was "going back to normal now."

However, it appears that WhatsApp is not finished yet, since several users have reported strange green elements in the software, forcing them to vent their dissatisfaction on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The update included green icons in the search function, a green cursor, green notifications, and a green spellcheck.

A user reported: "We don't like change. First the "Online" and "Typing" change, now the green notifications, green spellcheck, green cursor, green everything. 'But its branding'…. No. We don't like change. Leave us alone."

Moreover, almost all users have expressed displeasure with WhatsApp's new green colour scheme.

WhatsApp's spokesperson responded to user comments by clarifying that this was just a "small test, but it's going back to normal now."
