WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging app, is currently testing a new feature that may conveniently tell when someone was last online on WhatsApp contrary to its previous feature which displayed 'Online' status when a person was active.

Reports suggest that WhatsApp would also display a list of recently active persons, making it easier for users to know when someone was online .

Moreover, users can see a new tab, recently discovered within WhatsApp's interface, will only show a "limited number of recent active contacts," rather than a "comprehensive online list of all contacts," implying that the California-based platform is using an algorithm to select the most frequently contacted individuals to appear in that specific list.

The "recently online" feature was noticed on WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.9.14, but it is unclear whether it will be available to all users worldwide.

Considering the importance of privacy, it is reasonable to expect that if someone turns off the time, others will be unable to observe the activity information.
