Mark your calendars, stargazers! North America is in for another incredible sight — a total solar eclipse! This cosmic event, happening on April 8, will be the second one in just seven years. Get ready to witness the moon dance across the sun, briefly plunging parts of Earth into darkness.
The next solar eclipse will first grace the mainland in Mexico, casting its spellbinding shadow. Then, it will drift north, like a celestial curtain, entering the US through Texas. Buckle up for the show as it travels northeast before leaving most viewers in awe as it exits near the coast of Canada.
According to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), when the moon's shadow races across Earth on April 8 during the total solar eclipse, it will travel faster than the speed of sound.
The space agency said that the next solar eclipse will sweep across Earth at more than 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometers) per hour on April 8.
All those who are eager to watch the moon dance please remember that it is never safe to look directly at the sun during an eclipse (except for the few moments when the moon has fully obscured its surface). At all other times, watch the event through protective eye equipment.
