Keeping in view the problems faced by its users while sharing files, Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on a new file-sharing feature which would allow people to share files easily with people nearby.

WABetaInfo reported that the instant messaging app is exploring additional functions for users to be able to share files with ease.

To use the new feature, which will be available in the future update, both users (sender and receiver) will need to open this section to send and receive files, ensuring secure sharing within proximity.

The WhatsApp news tracker further added that it looks like it will be needed to shake the device to generate a share request, maintaining a controlled approach to file exchanges.

Moreover, the sharing will be end-to-end encrypted which will secure file sharing even outside of a WhatsApp chat and in an unknown network environment.

“Implementing a feature in WhatsApp that allows users to share files with people nearby can offer several advantages, enhancing user experience and adding important value to the platform,” WABetaInfo stated.

It should be noted that the phone number always remains hidden to non-contacts, ensuring privacy and security in every file exchange.

“We believe that this feature enhances file sharing by providing users with a practical solution for various scenarios,” the news tracker added.
