Stargazers in Pakistan will be able to enjoy a mesmerising sight on October 7, when the first Supermoon of 2025 shines in the night. The occurrence of a Supermoon is considered rare, as it makes the moon appear larger and far brighter in the sky than usual, allowing stargazers and anthropologists to witness one of the best astronomical highlights of the year.

Stargazers in Pakistan will be able to enjoy a mesmerising sight on October 7, when the first supermoon of 2025 shines in the night.

According to astronomers, it will be the "closest" approach of the moon since November 2024, making it one of the more popular sky events of the year for stargazers across Pakistan.

What is supermoon?

A supermoon is when the full moon aligns with the closest point in its orbit to Earth, which makes it significantly larger and brighter than usual.

This month's event will bring the moon to just 224,599 miles from Earth, making it appear 14% larger and almost 30% brighter than a typical full moon. Astronomy experts noted that this will be the closest supermoon since November 2024, making this a must-see display.

Experts noted that the best times for Pakistani viewers will be at moonrise and moonset, particularly at the latter, when the large moon is near the horizon and creates a spectacular effect.

When to see Pakistan's first supermoon?

The October supermoon is the first of three; the next will be on November 5 and December 5, making 2025 a special year for lovers of the night sky. The November supermoon is expected to be the brightest moon of the year, as it will be even closer at about 221,817 miles.

Astronomers said that typically, there are three to four supermoons every year, and 2025 is no exception. While another will appear in January 2026, it falls outside this year’s count.

What makes a Supermoon memorable is not only its extra brightness but also the stunning view it offers, especially when rising above the horizon.
