In a bid to tackle spam posts and promote a safer online environment, Elon Musk-led X is gearing up to introduce an innovative feature that would allow its users to disable links in replies to their posts.

This innovative update, which is intended to be one that empowers users and reduces undesired content, has been confirmed by Christopher Stanley, Senior Director for Security Engineering.

Independent app researcher Nima Owji recently discovered that users would now be able to tick a box to stop others from responding with links to their posts. The move should limit spam bots and self-promotion to create an authentic online experience.

However, some users have shown concerns regarding this new feature that it might result in the users limiting the sharing of legitimate sources, hindering efforts to debunk false information and prevent fake news

This massive step came after X was spotted testing multiple in-app currencies, a platform that would help users earn money. Other features were also rumoured to be spotted, including new ID verification features and job listings for verified organisations.

These noteworthy moves mark steps toward a much more user-friendly platform for the users. As X continues to progress among other social media platforms, there comes the increasing requirement of maintaining a balance between safety and free expression.
