Bluesky, a social networking site rivalling X (formerly Twitter), has announced the addition of a new video tab to user profiles.
This development comes following the addition of a new TikTok-like custom video week in the aftermath of the US ban on ByteDance’s short video platform.
Notably, Bluesky has garnered immense acclaim globally over the past few months and secured a wider user base. Recently, it also surpassed 25 million users worldwide.
Video tab feature on Bluesky
The video tab, added in the Bluesky 1.97 update, enables users to upload and share videos, including content from other social networks like TikTok.
If the feature is widely accepted, it could also provide Bluesky with a new revenue stream through its upcoming premium subscription plan.
The company might also offer features like longer or higher-quality video uploads as part of the plan.
It should be noted that not all Bluesky users are enthusiastic about this new feature, as some have expressed concerns that the platform is becoming too similar to TikTok, and have requested to disable the video tab on their profiles.
In addition to the video tab feature, the Bluesky 1.97 update has added a menu for blocking a user or deleting a conversation after reporting a DM (direct message) and other translation improvements.
