Xiaomi EV, the automotive division of the popular Chinese tech manufacturer, has officially issued its first vehicle recall, affecting 30,931 SU7 Standard Edition electric vehicles (EV) manufactured between Feb 6-Nov 26 2024. The recall addressed a software glitch in the parking assist system, disrupting time sync and significantly increasing collision risks.

The issue, associated with an error in the cloud-based service that supports the parking assist feature, prompted 255 complaints, with earlier reports dating back to November 14.

Xiaomi EV executed precautionary measures through its cloud service and developed extra protection strategies while conducting regulatory communication.

To resolve this issue, Xiaomi EV offers a free over-the-air (OTA) software update for the affected vehicles, offering enhanced functionality, which not only resolves the glitch but also enhances the parking assist system's functionality.

The SU7, Xiaomi EV’s debut electric vehicle, was unveiled on March 28, 2024. Widely regarded as a competitor to Tesla’s flagship Model 3 and is offered in three variants—Standard, Pro, and Max— available at $28247, $32133, and $39168, respectively.

Last year, Xiaomi successfully delivered 135,000 vehicles and the company is aiming to double this figure to 300,000 in 2025. In addition, Xiaomi is currently planning to release its second model, the YU7 SUV, which is likely to be launched in mid-2025.

Despite the recall, Xiaomi underscored its commitment to safety and customer satisfaction, positioning itself as a rising force in the highly competitive EV market.
