Widely popular heavy-duty bike manufacturer Yamaha Motor Pakistan (YMPK) has announced the shutdown of its manufacturing plant in Karachi, a move which is said to be driven by the automaker's low sales woes.
Announcing its departure from Pakistan in a Facebook post, the company expressed gratitude to the riders who made Yamaha a part of their lives. For its consumers, the company reassured that its commitment to after-sales service and spare parts will continue in the country.
While exiting the country, Yamaha promised non-stop delivery of spare parts through authorised dealers to fulfil customer needs. They also confirmed their commitment to warranty services and ongoing customer support under the existing warranty scheme.
Reason behind Yamaha motorcycle plant shutdown in Pakistan
In an interview with Business Recorder, auto sector expert Muhammad Sabir Shaikh noted that the rising demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan is putting pressure on traditional fuel-based engines.
It's believed that this transition to EVs could be the reason behind Yamaha's decision to halt motorcycle production in Pakistan.
Despite this massive shift, Yamaha is said to be willing to maintain a strong relationship with its customers by ensuring they have access to necessary parts and support.
Yamaha's closure marks the end of an era for a globally popular sports bike maker in Pakistan, yet the company seems adamant about serving its loyal customers.
