YouTube has suspended several AI-created movie trailer channels, taking away their capability to make money after they broke the platform's monetisation and misinformation rules.
This is an attempt by YouTube to combat increasing dissatisfaction with YouTube AI content and how it deceives audiences.
YouTube AI content policy 2025 aims at fake trailers
Platforms such as Screen Culture and KH Studio, which uploaded false trailers of actual, unreleased movies, were discovered to be raking in millions of views—and ad revenue—by copying official studio content.
YouTube said these channels employed AI to make false trailers by splicing together pre-shot footage, which the platform deemed unoriginal content under its new YouTube AI content policy 2025.
YouTube policy prevents "repetitive or duplicative" videos that contribute minimal value other than garnering views and also bans content that might be confused with actual trailers.
As a consequence, some videos were removed, and at least four big AI-trailer accounts lost access to their ad money.
In a wider sweep, YouTube also took down these creators from the YouTube Partner Programme, thus barring them from profiting from ads. These channels each had nearly a million subscribers and hundreds of millions of views.
Two other accounts, Screen Trailers and Royal Trailer, belonging to the same creators, were hit in a second enforcement wave.
Some producers are now declaring their videos as "concept trailers" to escape further sanctions, but others might appeal against YouTube's determination.
