YouTube is not banned in Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed on Friday, officially denying viral social media claims as false, outdated, and misleading.

This clarification comes after an old press release from 2012 resurfaced on social media, wrongly suggesting that YouTube had been blocked again in the country.

YouTube, the world’s largest video-sharing platform, is widely used in Pakistan for watching dramas, music videos, vlogs, lectures, and breaking news.

However, when users began sharing false claims of a YouTube ban in Pakistan, panic spread among content creators and viewers alike.

PTA take on YouTube ban in Pakistan

In a statement released on Friday, the PTA clarified that the news about YouTube being banned in Pakistan is false. The authority said the press release being shared is outdated and no such decision has been made now.

The 2012 press release being shared was issued in response to a Supreme Court ruling at the time over controversial content.

However, PTA now confirms that no such action is being taken today.

PTA has advised the public to ignore fake messages and rely only on official PTA channels and its verified website for authentic updates.

The authority also warned that spreading false or outdated information creates unnecessary confusion.
