To promote authentic content on its platform, YouTube has announced a crackdown on videos with clickbait titles and thumbnails in India.

This move aims to address the growing concern of misleading content on YouTube particularly those related to breaking news or current events.

It should be noted that this is not the first time YouTube has addressed the clickbait issue. Earlier, the platform launched an educational programme to assist creators in avoiding clickbait practices.

YouTube takes action against clickbait titled videos

According to a recent blog post by Google, numerous content creators in India have been using sensational and misleading titles to enhance the appeal of their video content.

These clickbait titles often incorporate phrases such as "Breaking news" or "the president steps down," leading to frustration and confusion among viewers particularly when seeking crucial information.

“We’re strengthening our efforts to tackle clickbait on YouTube against videos where the title or thumbnail promises viewers something that the video doesn’t deliver,” the company stated.

To address this issue, YouTube will remove videos having such clickbait strategies without issuing strikes against the creator's channel.

However, creators will be given a grace period to modify and align their videos with the platform’s updated guidelines.
