YouTube for Android is set to launch a new update — a transparent status bar — that makes for nice quality-of-life advancements.
Earlier, there was a solid status bar when you scrolled through the app’s Home and Subscriptions feeds. Currently, you will now view video thumbnails underneath the time, notifications, and status bar icons for a slightly more immersive experience.
However, when you’re at the top of those two feeds, it does not appear flawless when the system's dark theme is turned on.

It could be viewed that this transparent status bar launched on several devices on September 19, 2024 (Thursday) with version 19.37.35 of YouTube for Android (14 + 15), while it’s not yet fully available.
Whereas, apps that target Application Programming Interface (API) level 35 on Android 15 are “displayed edge-to-edge by default.” The YouTube Android team specified: “An internal Google user study found that users majorly prefer edge-to-edge screens over non-edge-to-edge screens” as it provides a more satisfying and premium experience.
