Zong 4G, one of Pakistan's major telecom service providers, has deployed new high-power antenna technology from ZTE in a bid to improve network capacity and coverage, ensuring users get fasters mobile internet speeds across Pakistan.
The installation of the new antenna tech would also minimise the equipment required on Zong's telecom towers.
With the betterment of Zong's services, thanks to the new equipment, the telecom giant has the first operator in the country to commercially deploy ZTE’s 8T8R ultra-broadband radio (UBR) and digital intelligent antenna (DIA) solution.
ProPakistani reported that this newly integrated system is capable of managing both 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz frequency bands within a single unit, replacing multiple older hardware components.
By consolidating equipment, Zong can save up to 67% of its remote radio units on each tower, which will reduce space constraints on crowded masts, simplify installation, and reduce maintenance costs.
The UBR and DIA setup will also enhance beamforming techniques, allowing for more precise mobile signal direction.
ZTE reported that Zong's daily network capacity has increased by 34%, with peak-hour performance improving by up to 83%. This improvement could lead to smoother video streaming, more reliable calls, and faster mobile data speeds during peak times.
While optimised for Zong’s current 4G network, the technology is also compatible with 8T8R configurations for future 5G upgrades.
Zong is also reported to be exploring various configurations to offset costs and energy consumption, specially in areas with limited space and power supply.
