Can you imagine the world without passwords? Well, 1Password is turning this into reality with its new "Passkey Ready" tool. This tool will help the developers to determine if the users are ready to take down the traditional passwords that can ensure more authentication methods including facial recognition or biometrics.

Passkey is an open technology developed by the FIDO Alliance, in collaboration with Apple, Google, and Microsoft. It's already available in Safari on iOS 16 and expanded to third-party apps with iOS 17.

The Passkey Ready tool is available on the Passage platform, which provides insights into the user readiness for passkey.

Moreover, the developers can also register and implement code on their website to access data on device types, operating systems, and passkey readiness.

This information helps developers transition to a passwordless future, enhancing security, user experience, and conversions.

How it works

Passkey Ready is designed to help you to understand how much people are ready for passkeys. Here’s how it works:

  1. Copy and paste a snippet of code into your website or app to start collecting anonymised data on visitor devices and browsers.
  2. Get a personalised report in the Passage console after collecting at least 100 data points, showing, Overall Passkey Readiness, Passkey Readiness Over Time, Passkey Readiness by Platform (browser and device), and Passkey Readiness by Geography (region)
  3. Use the insights to make informed decisions about implementing passkeys, and enhancing security and user experience for your visitors.
