The renowned Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly working on something users have long desired for: 60-second status updates. The extension of status update duration was spotted by WABetaInfo on top-of-the-line beta versions of WhatsApp for Android.

You can now upload 60 seconds status updates on WhatsApp

Once out of the testing phase and beta versions, the enhanced feature will undergo a wider rollout in a stable form, being accessible to general users of WhatsApp.

Currently, the ability to upload longer videos on WhatsApp Status is only available on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.7.6, which is released to those having signed up to get beta version of the messaging app.

The feature would dramatically double the length of videos users are able to upload at the moment, as the existing length of videos for Status updates is 30 seconds. Since the feature is being inspected, and has not been launched, those willing to have it will need to install the latest beta version of WhatsApp.

On top of that, another feature which is expected to make its way to India-based WhatsApp users is QR Code Scanner Shortcut for UPI Payments. The feature would allow users to make online payments with only a couple of taps.

Instead of navigating to the Scan payment QR code under the settings of WhatsApp, users will be able to access the feature right from the header of main screen of the app.

On its latest version for Android, the Meta-owned messaging platform recently took away the ability to take screenshots of users' profile pictures. With this feature coming into effect, Android phones will not permit to take screenshots, however, Google's Pixel smartphones will capture an entire black screen.
